Growth Multi- criteria analysis:
The growth multi-criteria analysis tool was created to help to quantify the data available for the plants that were selected by creating a criteria for the data available for each section. Then an object score could be given to each plant allowing for an objective overview of what species to peruse. The tool is based on the basic requirements of the plant and what it needs to survive.
The sustainability section takes an overview of what the plants require to live and is broken down into three categories; climate, energy and water use.
The climate section looks at what the plants basic needs are and questions if it would be able to survive on the concrete’s surface.
The energy section looks at how much energy it would take to transport the plant to different locations i.e. is it only available in one specific location in the world? It also analyses the nutrients needed for the plant and how expensive they are to buy.
The water use section considers how the plant uses water and the amount it needs to survive; this is key for evidencing how the plant will be able to live on the surface of the concrete.
The next section looks at ease of integration, potential benefits and risks. This provides an overview of what and how the plant would integrate within the system and what benefits it could bring.
The risk section is based on a business risk analysis tool, to account for is this plant going to be future proof and how it will affect this project being scaled up.(12) (13) (14) (15) (16) (17) (18) (19).
The ease of integration looks at the supply chain and whether the plant has a place in the market.
What is the demand like and how long does the plant take to grow.
The potential benefits section looks at all the advantages the specific plant could bring if placed on the concrete.
The scores are given on a 1-10 basis 10 being the highest, meaning it fulfils the category completely and 1 being it doesn’t fulfil the category or does not suitably perform in that area of the analysis.
If the data is not available or applicable a score of 5 is given for the category.
