Squashed, crushed and whole........

An experiment was done outside of concrete to understand the material characteristics of Oasis to understand how the material could react in the concrete.

Samples were placed in 500 ml of water and left for 48 hours and then weighed.

The oasis that was left untouched was just place straight into the water.

The compressed sample was put into a vice and crushed until it became a flat disk.

The oasis that was made into a dust was compressed in a vice until it was a fine dust.

Oasis dry: (8cm diameter and 5.5cm deep)

Weight: 6 grams

Oasis whole soaked: (8cm diameter and 5.5cm deep)

Weight: 249 grams

Comments:

This oasis absorbs the most water from the dry sample at 050% increase but also takes up the most space. This means its water absorption per cm is 45.27 grams per cm.

Oasis compressed: (9cm diameter and 1.5 cm deep)

Weight: 108 grams

Comments:

The compressed oasis absorbs 1700% more than the dry sample. The water absorption 72 grams per cm .

Oasis dust: (0.8cm deep)

Weight: 102 grams

Comments:
The dust oasis absorbs 1600% more than the dry sample. The water absorption 127.5 grams per cm. This means that the most efficient absorption per cm is the dust oasis which would also be the most effective option to add to concrete.

The next stage of the experimental plan will be adding the oasis dust to concrete and also repeat absorption of water to see if after time the absorption factor decreases.
